How To Know if You Have Mold In Your Walls?

Mold often grows out of sight in walls of residential or commercial properties due to water problems like flooding or leaks or excess moisture in areas of the property. Before you even know it, it creates a toxic environment in your home, compromising the air and health of you and your family.

The good news is that sometimes even if the mold is hidden you can find clues around the area that mold are present. You can find out if mold is growing in your walls in different ways. Here is how to spot mold that grows inside your walls.

Moisture

If your home has suffered from severe water damage, and the water damage is not tended to immediately then mold will grow in your walls, if the water wasn’t removed within 24-48 hours.

Other water problems like leaking or bursting pipes may also trap a lot of moisture inside your walls. This will provide a place for mold to grow. Be aware of these signs:

  • water stains
  • dark rings
  • discoloration
  • peeling, bubbling or cracking of the paint or wallpaper

If your walls are bulging or warped, they more than likely have moisture in them. A big clue is if the walls have a wet or damp feel to them. Normally you can also smell the mold it has a strong musty smell.
